The Inner Works Process

The Inner Works Inc. Training Programs

The Enneagram is a dynamic and powerful model of human nature that provides the tools needed for individuals to increase their self-awareness and social competence.

The following in-house training programs are interactive and experiential and use multi-media, music, and small and large group discussions to facilitate the learning of new skills and behaviours. (Half day, full day and two-day programs are available). The following sessions can be combined and custom-designed to fit your organization’s needs.

Leadership Development with Management Team

Research from the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina, found that a primary cause of executives’ difficulties was a deficit in emotional competence. The Enneagram provides a model of leadership competence that enables leaders to boost their personal power and emotional intelligence. When leaders understand their Enneagram style they can engage in the honest self-reflection that leads to personal and professional transformation.

Our leadership development sessions enable managers to examine their strengths and weaknesses, build new leadership skills and create individualized leadership development plans. Areas of development include:

  • Coordinating team activities
  • Focusing on team goals
  • Providing adequate resources
  • Setting vision and direction
  • Motivating others
  • Managing and evaluating performance
  • Problem-solving
  • Providing formal and informal recognition
  • Taking initiative

Benefits:

  • Appreciate yours and others’ unique leadership gifts
  • Challenge your own mindset and assumptions
  • Overcome personal limitations
  • Build positive relationships with others
  • Expand leadership roles and behaviours
  • Maintain personal equanimity and professional balance
  • Take powerful and decisive action
  • Articulate and lead others in pursuing a strong vision

Team Building with the Enneagram

The Enneagram is extraordinarily useful in creating high-functioning teams. Our process promotes positive relationships by opening up paths to mutual appreciation. New interpersonal understanding enables teams to overcome barriers to team effectiveness such as poor communication, misunderstandings based on different perspectives, mistrust, poor team management and ongoing conflict. The result is a supportive and understanding team culture.

Suitable for both executive teams with a mandate to lead, as well as project teams, committees, work units, task forces, ad-hoc teams.

We can custom-design our process to fit your team’s needs.

Benefits:

  • Improves interaction between team members
  • Reduces conflict and stress
  • Promotes creativity and flexibility
  • Increases trust and morale
  • Encourages more efficient use of time
  • Utilizes skills and talents more effectively
  • Increases interdependence
  • Boosts productivity

Communication Skills with the Enneagram

In this program participants learn to use the Enneagram to communicate effectively with others. By identifying their Enneagram type they see particular bias can misinterpret messages from others and how their speaking style can distort messages to others. From this basis participants practice clear communication – body language, reflective listening, blind spots, assertiveness, problem solving. Activities include mini-lectures, small group practice, large group discussions, demonstrations and observations.

Benefits:

  • Communicate with clarity and conviction
  • Give constructive feedback
  • Use appropriate body language
  • Reduce misunderstandings
  • Build rapport and trust
  • Deal effectively with difficult people

Conflict Resolution with the Enneagram

The Enneagram is a profound way of understanding the different worldviews of each of the nine types. Often it is these incompatible perspectives that cause conflicts to occur. The Enneagram teaches that everyone’s view is valid and that an understanding of others’ paradigms is important in resolving differences. It also reveals the differing needs and less conscious motivations underlying a conflict.

Through individual sessions, the conflicting parties learn the Enneagram system as a basis for understanding how their own viewpoints may be fuelling a conflict.

Insights from the individual Enneagram sessions are then taken into the joint conflict resolution session as a framework for understanding:

  • The perception of the problem
  • Goals, beliefs, philosophies, needs
  • Approaches to problem-solving
  • Emotional needs (pride, respect, affection)
  • C oncerns, insecurities, fears, hopes, values, assumptions, perceptions, expectations, beliefs, desires

Process:

  • Meet individually with each of the parties
  • Facilitate a conflict resolution session
  • Follow up with the conflicting parties

Benefits:

  • Discover unconscious motivations
  • Understand how our perspective can create conflict with others
  • Identify your conflict style and learn to manage it effectively
  • Accept others’ points of view and avoid blame
  • Resolve conflict

Coaching with the Enneagram

Individual and team coaching is available to provide support in changing habitual personal and group interactions. Participants learn to use the dynamic nature of the Enneagram to “break out of the box” of self-defeating behavior. A road-map for change, the Enneagram provides practical tools in accessing strengths and maximizing creativity.

Benefits:

  • Discover unconscious motivations
  • Understand your own assumptions and basis for taking action
    • Create effective work relationships
    • Enhance leadership
  • Make communication clear and conscious
    • Develop your intellectual, emotional and intuitive intelligences
    • Overcome personality-based limitations
    • Learn specific ways to access personal power
    • Make new, positive choices
